Juicers Through History

Apparently, people were using tools to make juice as far as 150 BC.

How cool is that!?

OK, maybe not exactly the same tools we use now. Back then juice making process involved pounding figs and pomegranates until the juice was extracted.

Until Dr Norman Walker. In 1936, he wrote and published his first book: “RAW VEGETABLE JUICES. What’s missing in your body.” In addition, he opened a juice plant. People could either order fresh juice delivered to their doorstep or come to the plant and enjoy delicious raw juice fresh at the counter.

Dr Norman Walker was literary “forced” to design and create the first juicer for home use. For the simple reason that people were getting good results from their juicing experience and they wanted to be able to make juice at home.

“Norwalk junior” was Dr Walker’s first attempt at creating smaller two-stage hydraulic juicers. Therefore, it took many years to put to production smaller machines with a sealed hydraulic system.

You still can purchase “Norwalk” juicers these days.

The Benefits of Slow Juicer

When I first decided to buy a juicer, I wasn’t thinking about differences between centrifugal juicers and masticating juicers or the benefits of one. To be honest, I did not know anything about juicers. I just went to my local supermarket and bought the second cheapest centrifugal model. Loved that juicer for years, but hated cleaning after work. One of my favourite summertime juice recipes is “watermelon+melon+ginger” juice. But since I was using such juicy products, I noticed that pulp was very “watery”. You don’t need to be an expert to realize, that your juicer sends lots of juice in pulp container. And I was not happy about that.

Everything changed last year when my husband finally bought me my first slow juicer.

And the first thing I did to check it, I juiced watermelon. You will not believe how much juice I got and how dry pulp was after juicing. I also enjoy how easy it is to clean my juicer and how quick I can reassemble the machine.

So, there is something you need to know about slow juicers:

  • You might know them as cold press juicers because they press or squeeze out the juice at low temperature, preserving all the nutrients, that might be damaged by heat.
  • Maybe you know them as masticating juicers, because they work by chewing (masticating) and grinding your juice ingredients together, and then putting pressure on the juice and pulp mixture to extract juice from a filter.
  • The best part about slow juicer is … wait for it … its speed!
  • The slow juicing process reduces juice oxidation. Less or no oxidation helps to preserve the maximum of nutrients in your juice and make sure your juice tastes better. Slower speed also means less noise.
  • You can store your juice longer and it tastes the same even after up to 72 hours!

So what if it takes some extra time to prepare your veggies and fruits. Yes, you need to cut them in smaller pieces. But at the same time, you can get all the juice from leafy greens like kale and wheatgrass (if you want to juice them). Here are my slow juicer reviews.

AICOK slow juicer review

Aicok slow juicer is a great slow juicer that doesn’t cost you a fortune.slow juicer

To produce juice, auger (resembling a large corkscrew) spins at 80 RPM that preserves the vitamins, enzymes, minerals, trace minerals, and nutrients from being destroyed as opposed to centrifugal juicers. Keep minimal oxidation, low heat build-up, less foaming, and no clogging.

The slow juicer has higher juice yield, compared to centrifugal juicers by the auger squeezing and reverse function. You will be surprised by how the juice extracted using Aicok juicer tastes. So flavourful, delicious and so nutritious!

Aicok juicer is easy to assemble, operate, and clean, dishwasher-safe parts make cleanup a breeze.

Runs quietly – less than 60 decibels, that lets you enjoy a quiet environment when making juice.

There is something the Omega vertical masticating juicer will not be able to produce, for example, nut butter.

slow juicerThat’s right! Delicious and nutritious smoothies. You can have one for breakfast or as the middle of the day snack, or maybe drink one after your workout.
